5 Amazing Healthy Eats Joints in Toronto for the Health & Fitness Enthusiast!
We’ve all experienced that familiar struggle of getting home from a long day’s work (and probably a post work workout) and staring at the fridge, too tired and exhausted to make the effort to cook a healthy meal. Well, for those “I’ll just go out to eat” days, why not opt for something both quick AND healthy? Oh and did we mention delicious? Here are our top 5 picks for fast, healthy and tasty restaurants in the city of Toronto right now.
Despite being a newbie on the food map, this gem sits firmly at first place. Founded in 2014, this new hot spot is already becoming a health fanatic favourite. Whether you’re popping in to grab takeout on the fly, or sitting down for a bite, this relaxed and inviting atmosphere located right near the St. Lawrence Market is almost as refreshing as it’s wholesome and delicious menu options.
All of Evolution’s produce is sourced from known and trusted partners, and they are proud to support local businesses and Canadian farmers. Their commitment to freshness and quality is evident in their dishes. Their menu boasts a variety of options, including a fresh Greek yogurt bar, cold press juices and smoothies, and an assortment of dishes containing lean proteins, whole grains and fresh produce.
This staple has been making waves in the health food industry for a while now. What started as a travelling juice bar has now come a long way from its humble beginnings. They currently have 4 locations in Toronto, and are working on expanding across Canada. Featuring an all vegetarian menu, this restaurant can sure make you forget about that hunk of steak you’ve been craving. Their satisfying portions and deliciously seasoned protein substitutions will no doubt leave you feeling entirely satisfied. All of Fresh’s food is made from scratch with all-natural ingredients, so there are no preservatives or hidden additives to worry about here, and everything is made fresh on the daily, never frozen.
Fresh offers both dairy-free vegan options and vegetarian options, as well as a gluten free menu. Their extensive menu ranges from veggie burgers to fresh squeezed juices, salads, bowls, wraps and other little bites of deliciousness. They make it their mission to provide fresh food fast without compromising on quality or service, so it’s a great spot to go if you’re crunched for time. If you’re looking to sit down and stay a while, we recommend hitting the patio at the Queen west location!
Similar to Evolution, this restaurant is all about sourcing local produce and values freshness and quality. With six fast-service locations, their menu is vegan, wheat free and organic, and most of their foods and sauces are made from scratch. They offer items like vegan bowls, burgers, salads, soups, and other tasty dishes.
Kupfort and Kim places a lot of emphasis on sustainability, which is why they provide entirely compostable takeout containers and compost or recycle all of their own waste. Their vegetarian menu stems from the idea that the more plant-based food we eat, the more environmentally sustainable for the planet. Compared with animal-based food, plant-based food production requires only a fraction of the fresh water, energy, feed and fertilizer, and surface area of Earth that could be returned to its original forestland.
Another perfect spot to hit while on the go, this no frills Liberty Village spot has limited seating, so it makes a better takeout option. Their menu is organic, plant based, gluten and sugar free, and all made with raw ingredients (but you’d never know it!). They offer cold salads and Asian inspired dishes, as well as warm dishes such as burritos and soup for chillier days. It’s amazing how delicious a raw vegan poutine can taste! A perfect choice for your “detox” diet, eat here if you are looking to put only the purest foods into your body. Can’t make the trek to liberty? They have a second location on Dupont street, which is just as popular.
This funky spot is definitely worth a trip to the junction. Like the area in which its located, this little café’s menu is unique and inventive, and offers a diverse selection of healthy choices. Unlike most of the other restaurants on this list, the Beet is not singularly vegetarian. They do offer vegetarian and vegan items, but also healthy options for the common carnivore. The Beet serves only the highest quality organic, locally sourced meat, eggs, cheese and produce. A must try- the Buenas Dias wrap, which is a Mexican inspired wrap filled with Avocado, spicy black bean spread, quinoa, pico de gallo, Quebec cheddar and cilantro chilli drizzle. Yum!
So no more excuses, just because you don’t have time to cook doesn’t mean you don’t have time to eat well. Next time you’re grabbing food on the go, opt for a healthy option! Happy healthy eating.J
